Leaving Ubud at 11am you’ll stop first at Mengwi, home of the Taman Ayun Temple, former home of the king of the Mengwi Empire. On the way up into the mountains you’ll drive through the picturesque Umaluang rice terraces. Stop and enjoy the view but you may want to skip eating at the restaurant here by their not so good reviews on Tripadvisor. The view here is breathtaking; prepare your cameras. From there you’ll drive north into the mountains and the mountain lake resort area of Bedugul. Stop for photos and viewing of one of Bali’s most famous icons, Pura Bratan, undoubtedly one of the most photographed sites on the island on the edge of Lake Beratan. On the way back down to the coast for your sunset adventure, you’ll stop at Alas Kedaton in the Tabanan regency, a smaller version of the famous Monkey Forest in Ubud. Of course there are many monkeys here but the true attraction is the roosting giant Flying Foxes who rest and nest in the temple buildings and nearby forest. You’ll arrive at the ocean in good time to explore Tanah Lot Temple and take photos of the sunset, weather permitting.
